THREE of Australia’s best lawn bowlers – plus one of Scotland’s best – will be in the region this week promoting bowls.
Steve Glasson, Kelvin Kerkow and Karen Murphy are all Australian representatives with outstanding records and will be joined by Scottish star Kay Moran when they visit Kootingal, West Tamworth and South Tamworth Bowling clubs this week.
They start off at Kootingal Bowling Club on Wednesday with a meet and greet at noon and then an afternoon of bowls.
On Thursday night they are at West Tamworth Sports and Bowling Club for another social function before conducting another bowls day at South Tamworth on Friday.
Kootingal Bowling Club’s Jayson Pinnock is delighted to have such an outstanding quartet of players available on Wednesday.
“It’s great to have four players of their calibre here,” Jayson said.
“It’s all part of BCIB, the insurance brokers who handle all the bowling clubs, getting them out to all the small towns and country centres.
“We’ve got a bit of a meet and greet from noon and then we’re heading out onto the greens for a bit of fun.
“Steve, Kelvin, Karen and Kay will be walking around giving a few hints here and there.”
It’s a big week for the West Tamworth Sports and Bowling Club, with the club staging the unfurling of its State Pennant around noon tomorrow.
“We believe it’s the first time a women’s club in the CNDWBA has won a State Flag,” West stalwart Bob Hennessey said.
“We’ve also got Steve, Kelvin, Karen and Kay here with the BCIB’s Ian Hopper on Thursday night too.”
That function starts around 6.30pm.
