ARMIDALE players dominated the final results at yesterday’s Armidale Ladies Jug, an 18-hole fourball event which attracted 170 players from across the region.
Sponsored by Margie and Jim Hanlan, the prestigious annual golf event was won by Armidale players Jenny Benton and Christine McNamara.
They carded 43 points in the stableford format to win on a countback from Armidale pair Carmel Berryman and Lyn Garner.
Armidale president Vanessa Ward, who plays off a four handicap, teamed with Carol Shield (20) to win the scratch event yesterday with 28 points.
It was a nice result for Ward, who is one of the few female golf club presidents in the country.
She has been in office for around a month and has found it a challenging task.
“Everything is going well,” she said.
“We’ve made a lot of changes and they seem to be going all right.
“Finding sponsorship is particularly hard, especially for the men’s jug next week.
“That’s going to be a big weekend, both days.”
The just-completed Armidale Ladies Jug weekend was enormous too, with 170 players making it a major success for the club.
“It’s the biggest field we’ve had since I don’t know when,” Ward said.
“The Armidale men’s jug weekend is going to big both days –both days are pretty full already.”
The club has received more than 530 nominations for the two days.
This Saturday is the Solomoms Day while the Armidale Men’s Jug is on Sunday.
