FORTY two Greater Northern Rugby League Academy Squad members will have an intensive start to their academy season at the Tamworth Sports Dome today.
While they will be inducted in a ceremony which includes a power point presentation on the GNA, the afternoon will also include specific tests, Greater Northern Regional manager Scott Bone said.
He said a beep test, skin fold testing, pull-ups and push-ups and sprint tests would all be carried out this afternoon.
“There will be some exhaustive testing,” Bone said.
“We have linked in with the AIS program and have access to all the records of AIS and Country Rugby League players from the last 10 to 12 years.
“We can compare their results to other players at the same age.
For instance, the beep test record is still held by Daniel Mortimer (Sydney Roosters NRL star).
“This will allow the boys to see where they are compared to others.”
He also said the help and support from Andrew Mahony and Peter Annis-Brown at Rural Fit was a major bonus.
The induction is timed to start at 4pm today at the Tamworth Sports Dome, with results from today’s testing available to the players at the two-day camp which will be held on November 16/17.
