IF YOU needed any more proof Tamworth had a generous heart, here it is.
When Aussie actor Samuel Johnson pedalled his unicycle into town last Friday as part of a 15,000km fundraising ride, he was hoping to raise $1500.
One extraordinary night later, and he’d raised more than three times that amount.
What’s more, the $5000 whipped up in a bucket fundraiser at the Longyard Hotel took Johnson’s tally over his $1 million fundraising target.
His “Love Your Sister” charity ride was inspired by his sister Connie, who has inoperable breast cancer.
Tamworth breast cancer survivor Nichole Parry-Leahy spearheaded the local fundraising effort and said it was “amazing” to help Johnson reach the magic million mark.
“It was a very emotional night and Sam is just a remarkable guy,” Ms Parry-Leahy said.
“He just draws everyone in with the way he tells a story.”
The $5000 was raised in a tick over three hours and was helped by a $1000 donation from The Pub Group.
Ms Parry-Leahy, 37, will take part in her own charity fundraising ride next February through Vietnam and Cambodia.
