ANOTHER busload of volunteer firefighters has left the region bound for the Hungerford Creek fire.
The fourth Tamworth Rural Fire Service (RFS) strike force made the journey to the 17,000-hectare blaze burning in the Wollemi National Park near Muswellbrook on Monday, while the team they were relieving arrived back at base safe and sound yesterday morning.
Closer to home, lightning strikes, the result of yesterday’s stormy weather, ignited two fires in the region.
Crews acted quickly to contain the blazes, which sparked near upper Mulla Creek and Kelso Ln, west of the Tamworth airport.
The RFS will conduct a reconnaissance flight today to check for further signs of smoke due to the lightning strikes and have asked the public to be on the lookout as well.
