A CANCER charity event organiser accused of “shooting through” with more than $6000 of donations has failed to meet another self-imposed deadline to pay back the money.
Stephen “Bunzie” Bunz, a Kiwi-born musician who landed in Tamworth after winning the 1981 New Zealand Country Music Entertainer of the Year, has not deposited the funds raised for the North West Cancer Clinic at last month’s Nev
Parnell Appreciation Concert.
Mr Parnell, a mainstay of the Tamworth country music scene, is battling inoperable bowel cancer and the event, which attracted more than 500 people, was held in his honour.
After more than six weeks and no money forthcoming, Mr Bunz said on Friday he had been plagued by “administrative errors” and would have the money in the Wests Leagues account by yesterday.
But Wests’ chief executive Rod Laing confirmed last night the funds had not appeared in the account.
Mr Bunz contacted The Leader late yesterday afternoon claiming he had “effected payment” and it would clear in
Wests’ account on Wednesday.
Police are investigating the matter.
