CENTRAL North Zone enters today’s first-round game of the Country Under 17 Carnival in Raymond Terrace missing a key strike bowler.
Tamworth right arm paceman Toby Fox has been forced out of the team because of a back injury, co-coach Graham Kent said.
He has been replaced by Maitland opening batsman Jamie Muddle, Kent said.
“It’s a shame for young Toby,” Kent said.
“He hurt his back after the Scone (trial) game. Jayden Muddle has come in for him.
“He’s an opening bat who can bowl first or second change medium pace.
“But I don’t know what it means to the batting lineup.
“Whether Jayden opens or bats in the middle order, we’ll work out.”
Muddle is one of five Under 16s in the team as well, joining Brandon Smith, Pat Magann, Lochlan Elks and Chris Duffie.
“It gives us a lot of experience for next season too,” Ken said.
Smith is a talented young top order bat, Kent said.
“He’ll probably bat at three.
“I reckon he could have a big year.
“But this is a very good side.
“ They bat all the way down to 11.
“We’ll probably have a very good batsman like Jono Maloney going in at seven or eight, that’s how strong it is.”
Tamworth’s Country Under 19 representative, James Psarakis, skippers the side in its first game of the carnival against Newcastle today.
Then they play Central Coast (tomorrow) and Western (Sunday) to complete a carnival from which a Country side is selected to play a City Under 17s at Bowral on November 10/11.
