ADAM Lole scored his first century in Tamworth grade cricket at Chaffey Park on Saturday.
The 38-year-old Old Boys opener smacked 117 off 124 balls against West Tamworth to celebrate a personal milestone along with the 146-run win.
It sits Old Boys on 13 points, equal top with South Tamworth, and seven ahead of Bective-East and City United.
Premiers North Tamworth are equal fifth with West Tamworth, both sides losing both their opening games.
For Lole, the move from the North Redbacks to Old Boys has been a success.
He is the perfect foil for the stroke-playing Simon Norvill.
On Saturday they hammered a 163-run opening stand before Norvill was caught in two minds and hit a straightforward catch to cover. He made 96.
While he wasted a fine opportunity to post a century, Lole didn’t.
“It’s taken me nine years,” the former Bective and North Tamworth top order bat said after the game.
“It’s my first in Tamworth first grade.”
While he said he is 38, he felt 138 as he packed his kit to decamp for the Family Hotel and a few celebratory refreshments.
“I didn’t think I’d get there,” he admitted.
“I scored 99 against South in a final a few years ago. That was as close as I’d got.
“Batting with Simon is easy.
“ Very enjoyable. You just do your job.”
He’s batted with Norvill a number of times in representative games for Tamworth so he knew his ability to poke and prod and noodle singles and twos here and there would be perfect for Norvill to launch his powerful hitting.
Lole hit 10 fours in his century while Norvill blasted 13 and a six to boot.
His century also earned him the three points in the Cool Blue Ice-sponsored Tamworth Best and Fairest Award.
He sits on three with clubmate Chaise Crough as well as South Tamworth pair Chris Skilton and Nick Leyden and young City United batsman Ryan Hansen.
Bective-East’s Adam Jones leads the way after he also snared a century in the limited overs games on Saturday.
This weekend is the first of the two-day matches.
North Tamworth plays City United, Bective-East tackles West Tamworth and South plays Old Boys.
