LADIES of the region headed to Tamworth Railway Station on Sunday, not to go anywhere, but to enjoy afternoon tea.
The unusual setting hosted the Zonta High Tea with about 55 women and one lone man raising money for the organisation’s charities of midwifery scholarships and breast pillows.
Zonta Tamworth president Vicki Lane said it was a shame for the waiting room at the railway station to go to waste, with its ornate fittings and historical feel.
Felicity King-Leeder spoke to the ladies about the opening of the station and did a poetry reading of Women of the West.
Mrs Lane said they hoped to hold the function there annually now, unless someone else came up with a better idea.
As well as raising money for good causes for women, the ladies enjoyed tea, coffee and punch as well as cakes, biscuits and other delicacies while soaking up the ambience of the venue.
