JAMES Hetherington celebrated more than just a win in Sunday’s Fernhill Estate NSW Senior Championship in Tamworth’s AELEC on the weekend.
The young university student also won the Riders Cup on Saturday and was second to Dave Goodwin in the overall pointscore to be crowned the NSW Senior Champion.
There were some other notable efforts, including AJ McCusker’s win in the 1.25m title, with solid performances in all three rounds of competition.
Ron Easey won and placed in a number of the top classes, culminating in a win in the 1.25m final on Saturday night when he was crowned the 1.15m champion.
Other local riders who featured in the places in various classes included Jack Maunder, Madeline Sinderberry, Andrew Barnett, Brock Harvey, Jade McCusker, David Robertson, Phoebe Smith, Kirstie Whatmore, Skye Sylvester, Toots Gilder and Scott Sears.
While Hetherington took out Sunday’s Fernhill Estate Senior class, Goodwin’s strong performances over the three rounds meant he won the overall championship on his nine-year-old homebred Warrego Jericho.
Central Coast-based Sarah McMillan triumphed in the Yirrkala Stud Young Rider championship and Sam Tripp, from Fernhill Equestrian at Mulgoa near Penrith, was victorious in the Equestrian NSW Juniors.
The hotly contested Equineworld Amateur Title was won for the second year in a row by Melissa Blair and Flying Teddy.
