THE river is the best place for a fish, and Bingara’s big metal fish has found its permanent home in The Junction Park overlooking the Gwydir River.
The river inspired the design of the fish, which was made as part of the Women of Mettle workshops in February and March.
Tutor Tony Gomez was guarding the fish until it was installed in its final home on Thursday, August 29.
Project manager Frances Young said she was proud of the welders Gay Mack, Susanne Hiemer, Angela Croll, Marg Foster and Stella Carnell.
“The enthusiasm and creativity shown by each of the participants, along with the expert tuition of Tony Gomez made the project a great success,” she said.
The project involved many members of the Bingara community, with residents donating usable recycled metal to the art work.
The Women of Mettle was an initiative of Upper Gwydir Landcare Association.
