Total fire ban applies today
FIRE permits have been suspended across much of the region today as the warm weather takes hold.
A total fire ban has been declared in the North West area around Moree and Narrabri with a very high fire danger forecast.
The ban means all open fires are banned and hot works like welding must be postponed.
The RFS is also urging landholders to delay any mechanical slashing to lessen the risk of igniting a fire.
A very high fire danger is also forecast for the Northern Slopes and New England RFS zones.
While a total fire ban hasn’t been declared in these areas, the RFS has suspended all fire permits and warned locals against lighting any fires during the hot conditions.
Temperatures are expected to hover around the high 20s and low 30s across much of the New England North West.
The Hunter will also be subject to a total fire ban.
