A CAR careered off the road and burst into flames after hitting a large piece of metal on Croppa Creek Rd at Croppa Creek yesterday at noon.
Barwon Local Area Command Inspector Kylie Chinnery said there was debris on the road, “possibly from a passing truck”, and when the car hit it it took out the undercarriage.
The car went off the road, missed two trees and caught on fire, Inspector Chinnery said.
“It’s taken out the sump of the car ... it was quite a big lump of metal,” she said.
The car driver and passenger managed to get out of the car before it burst into flames.
“Apparently the fire started pretty quickly,” Inspector Chinnery said.
A passing fire brigade truck extinguished the fire before continuing on its way.
