TAMWORTH will host what organisers believe will be the “biggest ever” NSW Team Penning Championship at Moonbi this weekend.
Tamworth and District Team Penning Association publicity officer, Penny Webb, said more than 150 riders, their trusted mounts and nearly 500 head of cattle will be processed as the T&DTPA delivers a 10th Annual NSW Team Penning Championship at Moonbi Recreational Grounds.
“Four divisions are all vying for impressive buckles, imported from the USA, including Open, Maiden, Junior and Youth,” Webb said.
“The prize pool, is more than $15,000 and possibly the biggest ever offered in Australian Team Penning history.
Action packed, team penning is experiencing monumental growth in Australia as families, beginners and experienced stock and station hands race against the clock in “penning” three head of cattle from a mob of 30. Spectators are encouraged on Sunday afternoon (about 2pm) when the top 10 Maiden, Youth and Junior and top 20 Open division riders run off in a clean slate final. Entry is free.
