A FAMILY is in shock after an elderly couple and their son were killed in a car accident at Maules Creek yesterday.
Four people were involved in the single-vehicle crash, with three dying at the scene.
Emergency services attended the crash on Glencoe Rd, 41km east of Narrabri, about 12.20pm yesterday.
They found the vehicle had left the road and rolled.
Three of the occupants – an elderly couple and their son – died at the scene.
Paramedics treated a 15-year-old boy travelling in the back seat at the scene before he was airlifted to Tamworth hospital in a serious condition, but with non-life-threatening injuries.
He suffered chest and pelvic injuries in the crash.
Officers from the Barwon Local Area Command attended the crash site and established a crime scene.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the fatal accident and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
It was the first fatal accident of the October long weekend for the region, but the sixth in the state.
However, it was the third fatal accident in the New England North West region in as many weeks, with a motorcyclist killed in Boggabilla on September 29, and a 21-year-old driver killed in Uralla on September 19.
This brought the NSW October long weekend road toll to eight, as of yesterday afternoon.
