ANGELINA Jolie one day, and Alan Jackson the next, with the US country king wowing a sold-out audience in Tamworth last night.
Fans travelled from all over the countryside to see the country star in person and in full voice, with 4500 people packing out the Tamworth Regional Entertainment and Conference Centre.
Tamworth Regional Council entertainment venues manager Peter Ross said country music lovers came from Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour, Moree and Narrabri and coach loads arrived from Inverell and Glen Innes.
Some local fans were so keen they’d travelled to Sydney by coach to see him at Allphones Arena on Tuesday night.
Uralla’s Elizabeth Pollard travelled with Armidale residents Kerry Swadling and Denise Strange on a tour with Chris and Gemma Watson from Tamworth.
They saw Jackson in Sydney, stayed overnight then travelled back to Tamworth.
Ms Pollard said this was the third time she had seen Jackson in concert – catching him in 2011 at Acer Arena (now Allphones) and CMC Rocks the Hunter.
“The show was phenomenal,” she said.
“I’ve liked him for about five years and knew of him before then, but I really became a fan then.”
The three friends said their favourite songs included Drive, Chattahoochee and Remember When.
Ms Swadling said she also saw Jackson at CMC Rocks in 2011 and became a fan that night.
“When Chris (Watson) said he was doing a bus trip, I was there,” she said.
Ms Strange said the Jackson show in Sydney was her first really big concert and the atmosphere was electric.
“I was introduced to line dancing through Chris and by meeting other like-minded people, it gives me the opportunity to go to these things,” she said.
“I’ve liked him for many years, I’ve just never had the opportunity to go to something like this.”
The women said the support artists were also wonderful on the night.
It was no different in Tamworth. The show wasn’t all about Jackson, with Australian Morgan Evans and US star in her own right, Sara Evans, firing up the crowd before the hat-wearing, moustache-toting star hit the stage.
Jackson is believed to have arrived in a private aircraft yesterday afternoon.
