FRESH, local, organic and ethical food attracted hundreds of people to Walcha last Saturday for the town’s first farmers’ market.
More than 500 producers and consumers from across the New England attended the market, designed to supply quality produce to chefs, food businesses and home cooks.
Among the produce available werewine, trout, eggs, honey, breads, pastries and baked goods, spices and sauces, meats, olive oil, goat’s milk products, organic herb by-products, plants and flowers, old-fashioned home-made lemonade and milkshakes.
A number of regional businesses, including New England Pastured Eggs, were launched at the market.
The Walcha farmers’ markets are to be held at McHattan Park on the third Saturday of each month, from 8.30am to 12.30pm, with the next event slated for October 19.
