THE poll for Parkes, the electorate that takes in portions of the western parts of the North West region, was declared last week, with sitting Nationals MP Mark Coulton securing a swing of over 4 per cent on first preference votes this time around.
He won the seat on a two-party preferred margin of 72.35 per cent against the 27.65 per cent secured by Country Labor, who were down 3.49 per cent on the previous poll on that basis.
Mr Coulton has held the seat since 2007.
The Nationals MP looks after the likes of Boggabri, Bingara, Moree, Narrabri and Warialda in an electorate that is nearly 257,000 square kilometres and stretches from the Queensland border south to Lake Cargelligo and takes in other major centres like Dubbo, Narromine, Mudgee and Cobar.
By comparison, New England is just under 60,000 square kilometres.
