While the Matt Endemi-coached Under 12 NIF girls’ side won its NNSWF Under 12 State Championship in the Coffs Harbour International Stadium on Monday, the Steve Sharp-coached Under 14s went within a whisker of scooping the pool for NIF at the NNSWF State Championships for Girls.
Northern Inland Football’s girls’ Under 12s were crowned NNSW State champions on Monday after the side, with just the bare 11, went through the six-game championship unbeaten.
“We also won the Under 12s last year,” NIF executive officer Dino Perizzolo said.
“It was a big weekend for us as the 14s almost won as well.
“We were pretty unlucky in the end,” he said of a side coached by Quirindi’s Steve Sharp.
“If we had won our final game we would have finished on top.
“We were leading 1-nil against Far North Coast when they scored a long-range goal that floated over our goalie’s head. It was their first goal of the tournament as well.
“The 14s went from first to fourth.”
Football Mid North Coast was crowned Under 14 State champion.
It’s been a big few days for NIF, with its Premier League grand finals played at Ken Chillingworth Oval last Saturday.
NIF’s presentation night will be held in the new Tamworth Jockey Club function room in the John Clift Stand on Saturday night where A League coaches Gary van Egmond (Newcastle Jets) and Graham Arnold (Central Coast Mariners) will be special guests along with some of their star players.
Tickets for the presentation night are $55 and available through Perizzolo at NIF (67666335).
The two A League sides then play a trial at Scully Park from 2pm on Sunday.
