ONE local officer has drawn the short straw – literally – and now he’ll be on the beat full-time in Bingara.
But he’s no ordinary policeman, rather Constable S Crow has taken up “keep-watch” duties ahead of the Wings’n’ Things Bird and Bush Festival on the October long weekend.
Scarecrows of all shapes and sizes have converged on the Gwydir shire ahead of the artistic event.
Bingara police were behind the latest blue- and-white attraction that has stopped traffic in more ways than one.
“Bingara officer ‘Constable S Crow’ will stay on deck in Maitland St for the duration of the festival,” a police spokesman said.
“While some might think he’s a bit a corny, his message is pretty serious.
“If you’re travelling this weekend, stay alert, slow down and drive carefully.”
The artistic festival will kick off on October 4.
