A 19-YEAR-OLD woman has been thrown from a car she allegedly stole after slamming it into a telegraph pole.
About 1am on Saturday, Glen Innes police attended the intersection of Church and Oliver streets where they encountered an overturned blue Ford Falcon station wagon.
The woman, who had been ejected from the vehicle, was found on the ground nearby.
Police believe the car – which they allege was stolen from a house in Glen Innes earlier in the night – slammed into the telegraph pole, knocking it to the ground, before hitting a brick wall and overturning.
The woman sustained chest and leg injuries and was treated at the scene by ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to Lismore hospital.
Police say they will speak to the woman as part of their investigation when she is released from hospital.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
