AN ABANDONED house in Gunnedah was damaged by fire early yesterday morning.
NSW Fire and Rescue units attended the fire on Marquis St about 2.30am and found the rear northern corner of the house alight.
No one was in or near the house at the time of the fire as the house is derelict and believed to have been empty for at least 10 years.
NSW Fire and Rescue officers believed the fire was deliberately lit and detectives from Oxley Local Area Command are making inquiries into the cause of the fire.
The fire was mainly contained to the rear of the house, however there is significant roof damage, making the house dangerous to enter.
A small amount of asbestos has also been found in sections of the building.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Gunnedah Police on 6742 9099.
