TWO SOUTH Tamworth United players are off to Coffs Harbour after being selected in a Northern NSW squad squad to compete in next month’s FFA National Youth Championships.
Brodie Patterson and Sam Fulwood will both be representing Northern NSW in the 14 years division of the tournament at the end of the month.
The pair have been through a fairly comprehensive Northern Inland Footbal (NIF) talent identification process that started when they were seen playing for South and eventually picked up in the Talented Player Pathway program.
The boys then participated in several state youth league training camps before being selected in the final squad that will compete at the championships.
Patterson plays up front on the left side and is a very handy left-foot striker as well, while Fulwood plays in the midfield and defensive line boasting good vision and distribution skills.
NIF manager Howard Stubbs has been monitoring the boys’ progress and said they were looking forward to the experience of the big games and the excellent coaching staff and practice on offer.
“This tournament is an opportunity to be selected in state sides, the National Training Centre side, and is a stepping stone to the young Socceroos,” Stubbs said.
“The boys have trialled in previous years and have finally made it into the squad.”
The tournament will see the pair play with and take on the best young talent Australia has to offer, with several teams from the other state and territories entering the five-day competition.
Northern NSW has two sides, a country and a metro team, in the Under 13 and Under 14 divisions.
Armidale’s Andy Lennon will coach the Under 14 NNSW Country sides while Vic Stokes is in charge of an Under 13 side also containing Tamworth’s Jack Diebold, Ben Gamil and Harrison Taylor as well as Werris Creek’s Will Menz.
