Both B-doubles were stopped in separate incidents by police while travelling south on the Newell Highway at Coonabarabran near the intersection of Warrumbungles Way.
Heavy vehicles are restricted to a 100km/h speed limit.
About 1am Saturday a B-double was travelling from Brisbane to Victoria when it was detected travelling at 124km/h.
The male driver, from Western Australia, was issued a Radar Penalty Notice for a heavy vehicle exceeding the special speed limit by more than 10km/h.
About 10.30pm Friday, a Kenworth B-double was detected travelling at 124km/h.
The driver was issued a Traffic Penalty Notice for a heavy vehicle exceeding the special speed limit by more than 20km/h.
Both drivers were issued with defect notices and their B-doubles were grounded, pending a speed limiter inspection and Engine Control Module download.
Traffic and Highway Patrol Command operations manager Superintendent Stuart Smith said the speeds involved in both cases presented significant risks to the operators of those trucks, the drivers and other road users
“The Joint Heavy Vehicle Taskforce will now be activated to audit the fleets involved which may result in further action against those companies,” Superintendent Smith said.
“At a time when we’ve been able to reduce heavy vehicle related fatalities in NSW, based on this time last year the Coonabarabran Highway Patrol have done an excellent job in preventing the potential for road trauma from these two significant speeding events.”
