VETERAN cricketers from across the Northern Inland warmed up for the Australian Veteran Cricket Championship on the Sunshine Coast with a practice match in Tamworth on the weekend.
A number of vets turned out for the match in Tamworth before heading off to Queensland for Sunday’s start to the titles.
Vets “publicity lackie” Dave Head said about 15 turned out for a good hit.
“They have all been in training for the championships,” Head told The Leader.
“They’ve all been doing something. Staging the titles so early in the new season makes it hard but the boys had a good session. I know Albie Barwick and Bob Haling had good knocks and Dennis Moran was handy with the ball. Narrabri allrounder Michael Morgan was also in form with bat and ball.”
Head said the local contingent of players from Tamworth, Quirindi, Walcha and Narrabri will line up in various sides in the four different divisions.
“We have representatives in all four Divisions (Div 1, 2 & 3 and Over 70s).
