INDIGENOUS elders got their technology fix yesterday with an introductory workshop to computers and the internet at the Tamworth City Library.
The Tech Savvy Seniors program began in August, but yesterday’s was the first elders-only workshop.
Four Aboriginal elders attended the workshop, where digital and learning services librarian Shiralee Franks showed them basic computer skills.
“Most of them hadn’t used computers or the internet before, so it’s about getting them familiar with the computer and navigating the internet,” Miss Franks said.
Miss Franks is also the co-ordinator of the Tech Savvy Seniors program, which is being run at all central northern regional library branches except at the city library, which already offers the digital hub seniors technology service. The seniors program will cover the internet, email, social media, smartphones and tablets.
