THREE-TIME Paralympian Sarah Rose was special guest at a Tamworth sports day for people with a disability.
Organised by Sunnyfield Disability Services, the day was attended by 75 clients from a range of services across Tamworth and Gunnedah.
They gathered at the Tamworth Sports Dome on Wednesday where they threw, kicked and ran their way through modified javelin, shotput, goalkicking, egg-and-spoon races and nerf gun events.
Penny Plowman from Sunnyfield said they had come up with the idea as a way to raise the profile of disability services in the area.
About 20 Oxley High students helped out on the day as “buddies” for the competitors and with the activities.
Four different teams contested the day’s events and Ms Rose, a butterfly swimmer, chose Rodney Butler as the day’s best and fairest.
Ms Plowman said the day had been such a success they were planning on making it an annual event and even looking at giving it a regional focus.
