KEVIN Robinson is a man of long rugby league experience helping out those less fortunate through the Men Of League Foundation.
Robbo, as he is better known, is the president of the Tamworth branch of the MOLF, and was at Kootingal Oval last Saturday hoping to sign up more members as well as publicise Tamworth’s big MOLF charity bowls day on Sunday, September 22.
It was a quiet day for Robinson leading into the Group 4 Second Division minor semi-final.
“We only signed up one new member – Dave Northey,” he said.
“But that’s okay. We just want to put our name out there – that’s the main thing.
“And publicise the big charity bowls day at South Bowling Club on Sunday, September 22.”
Plans are well advanced for that day, with former North Tamworth premiership-winning captain-coach Peter Woolaston already organising a couple of teams.
Manilla’s Greg “Nuggett” Cooper is also confident of having two teams bus it in from Tiger land while the likes of Peter Blom and Ken Thompson are also organising teams, players, sponsors and even auctioneers.
Blom, the Dungowan Cowboys secretary, is hoping Matt Warden might sell some of the memorabilia the MOLF can provide.
Also, former multiple Clayton Cup-winning captain-coach Les Cleal has accepted an invitation to be one of the special guests on the day.
Big Les hopes his brother, Noel, might also be available while the likes of Jim Leis, Neville Glover and Bob Barker will also be approached to attend as guests and make it a fun day.
For Robinson, it’s not the only major event he’s steering either.
He’s also committee president of the West Tamworth Centenary Reunion which will be held on October 18, 19/20.
Plans are well advanced, with a meet and greet to start proceedings in the Ken Chillingworth Room at Wests on the Friday night (October 18).
Tickets for the meet and greet, reunion dinner and farewell BBQ are just $60 and available at Wests.
Robinson and his reunion committee meet again at Wests from noon today and they welcome any past player or supporter to attend and have a chat about the reunion.
They also welcome any memorabilia so they can display it at the reunion dinner at Wests on Saturday, October 19.
