“Why not paint it pink and use it as a breast cancer fundraiser?” he thought.
“I’m sure my business partners, Brian and Bruce, initially thought I had lost the plot, but after some thought they agreed wholeheartedly that this was a great concept and a great cause,” Mr McDonald said.
“We made a commitment when we started the business that we would do whatever we could to give back to our community and here was another opportunity to add to our list of worthy recipients.”
The local Serendipity committee, which raises money for the breast cancer cause, was selected as the recipient and the members couldn’t be happier.
As well as raising awareness of the disease, Redimix has pledged a donation of $1.50 for every cubic metre of concrete sold.
The pink truck was officially handed over by JT Fossey Trucks in Taminda yesterday, where she was christened “Mrs Mac”, in honour of Mr McDonald’s mum, who has had breast cancer. The wife of a Redimix employee has also recently been diagnosed with cancer.
Mr McDonald said JT Fossey and the Mack Trucks manufacturing facility in Brisbane didn’t waiver for a moment when he put in his special pink request.
“The Mack staff were just great, because it was a real challenge to have this colour introduced when the truck was about to hit the assembly line,” he said.
The additional expenses for the special paint colour were waived, as were other non-standard features wanted on the truck.
