A 31-year-old man who was chased down by police in a short foot pursuit faced Tamworth Local Court yesterday.
The pursuit that led to Andrew Sampson’s arrest was the second in two days where an offender wanted on outstanding warrants was chased down and caught by local police.
It follows Wednesday’s arrest of a 15-year-old youth who was wanted on theft charges.
About 2.20pm on Thursday, police stopped a car being driven by Sampson in Tingira St, Tamworth.
Police inquiries found he was a disqualified driver and was wanted for a number of traffic offences on the same day and past domestic violence offences.
During the inquiries, he allegedly got out of the car and ran from police.
Police said he then proceeded to jump a number of fences into yards.
After a short foot pursuit, the officers were able to subdue him with capsicum spray.
Sampson allegedly continued to resist arrest until the spray took effect.
He was charged with driving disqualified, three counts of trespass, common assault and malicious damage, among other charges.
Sampson was released on conditional bail at his court appearance yesterday and will reappear at Tamworth Local Court on Monday, August 27.
Wednesday’s 45-minute pursuit around Calala, involving up to 12 police officers, resulted in the arrest of a 15-year-old boy who was wanted on three outstanding arrest warrants for theft.
