WEST Tamworth and Kootingal will be bowling for State Pennants honours at Inverell and the coast this weekend.
While Kootingal lines up in the No.3 field in Inverell, the West Tamworth No.5s are off to Berry and Bomaderry.
They’ll play today and tomorrow and if they finish top of their section will contest the semi-finals tomorrow afternoon and then possibly a final on Monday.
The West Tamworth 12 have been drawn in a section with St John’s Park, Taren Point and Cooma, and will have to play well to get through.
“They’ll all be pretty tough, you’re down to the top 16 in the state,” West selector Terry Kelly said.
They qualified for the state carnival by winning the district pennants at Tamworth City, and then defeated Glen Innes in the zone final at
Kootingal.
It’s the first time the club has had a team reach the state play-offs for about four years.
The last was the No.4s at Bathurst.
The No.3 finals games will be spread across Inverell East and Inverell RSM clubs and see players from all over the state taking to the greens.
The 16 competing clubs have have been split into four sections of four.
Kootingal are in section 4 along with Kew, who they play first-up at RSM today, Lennox Head and Ettalong Memorial.
The other initial matches are: section 1 - Cabramatta v Bega, Sylvania vs Grenfell; section 2 - Maitland City vs Ashfield, Bourke vs Figtree RSL; section 3 - Merrylands v Tumut, Avalon Beach v Burwood Colliery, and section 4 - Lennox Head v Ettalong Memorial.
Games commence at 9am.
Like the No.5s, the round games will be played today and tomorrow morning, semi-finals tomorrow afternoon and the final on Monday.
