Superhero week raises essential funds and awareness for the palliative care cottage, which helps ensure it can continue to provide support, respite and end-of-life care to sick children and their families.
The fundraising week is named in honour of the nurses, volunteers, families and, of course, the children themselves who show superhero strength, bravery and determination in the fight against the barrages of terminal illness.
“Bear Cottage is thrilled that Denison St Early Learning Centre is behind this event by holding a dress-up day for the children at the centre and also a movie screening of Rise of the Guardians to tie in with the superhero theme,” a Bear Cottage spokesperson said.
“We think it is wonderful that other children are happy to get involved to help the special children and families that we see at Bear Cottage every day.”
Bear Cottage is one of only two children’s hospice facilities in Australia and the sole hospice worldwide to be affiliated with a children’s hospital – the Children’s Hospital of Westmead.
Costing over $3.2 million to run each year, the Manly cottage relies on public funding to help keep its doors open to families.
