Our hockey girls cement semis berth

Tamworth’s Kate Jenner and her Hockeyroo colleagues have continued their winning run in London, defeating the United States 1-0 last night.

Hockeyroos goalkeeper Toni Cronk was described as the “brick wall” in the game with her teammates providing just enough mortar as Australia builds towards an Olympic women’s hockey semi-final berth.

Veteran Cronk, who has been outstanding so far in the tournament, made three crucial stops as Australia’s women’s hockey team took their record to two wins and a loss in their three Pool B matches.

The Hockeyroos’ position in the group will be shaped heavily by the other two matches that were to be played early this morning in Pool B – dubbed “the group of death” and very evenly matched.

World No.3, Germany, who have a win and a loss, play South Africa and unbeaten Pool B leaders New Zealand take on world No.2 Argentina.
