Back in his Tamworth electorate office late last week, and after corporate and political tour gigs around the country, he began a series of red carpet events for the electorate in his hometown of Glen Innes on Friday. He will take them to Tamworth, Armidale and Inverell in the next month.
He was in Inverell on Saturday as part of an exhaustive schedule to spread the 21st Century Australia party word in the weeks left before Australians go to the polls.
Last night there had still been no word from new prime minister, Kevin Rudd, on whether he would move the poll from September 14, but it’s considered likely.
Mr McIntyre, a millionaire entrepreneur who says he will fund 99 per cent of his own campaign, is hoping it’s not brought forward by too much to give him the maximum amount of time on the campaign trail.
He admits it would be one of the “greatest upsets in Australian political history” if he was to take the seat but voters to know he’s “not running for any other reason than to win”.
