Power to the people backup in Tamworth

YOU'VE heard that old joke - how many men does it take to change a light bulb?

Well, when it comes to Essential Energy and a major works project in the heart of east Tamworth, it's all hands up the pole.

Looking a lot like Lego men, they were up high - and in the freezing cold and even in the rain this week - doing their job.

That's linesmen Jack Morris, Joe Bennett, Liam Richards, John Kennedy and Andrew Moody, pictured clockwise from bottom left, putting some extra power into our electricity supplies.

The operator of Australia's largest electricity network has just begun upgrade works to improve the reliability and capacity of the local power supply. According to regional general manager Matt Patterson the work will be done over the next three months and include the installation of a new transformer and the replacement of 15 powerpoles, a transformer, powerline and streetlighting in parts of Carthage St.

The improvements will provide an additional backup option in the event of unplanned supply interruptions in the East Tamworth area.

Mr Patterson said the majority of work is in Carthage, Fitzroy, Upper and White streets and in Rawson Ave but it will benefit the majority of East Tamworth residents.

The projects include the replacement of the old two-pole transformer near the railway line in Fitzroy Street with a new single pole transformer.
