Showjumping  going ahead in leaps and bounds

THE Tamworth Winter Showjumping Championships got underway at the AELEC yesterday as record numbers filled the rings.

The three-day event is already one of the biggest for the North and North West Showjumping Club and it just keeps pulling in the horses and riders.

“It just keeps getting bigger,” club president Dave Alden said.

“We’ve got twice the numbers as our last event.

“The calibre of riders is very good and they come from all over the state and a few from interstate.

“Moving to the equine centre has helped.

“Word keeps spreading around and it keeps growing and growing.

“We’re running three rings over three days and we’ve never had to do that before.”

The main event is the Sue Alden Memorial Grand Prix, which begins at 2pm today.

Among the riders competing are David Robertson and former Olympian George Sanna.

Entry is free and spectators are welcome.
