After only coming together this week, the squad has trained twice at Inverell and hopes to translate a good training effort into a couple of wins today.
“We’ve trained pretty well this week,” coach Dale Keegan said.
“We’ve got a more experienced squad.
“Hopefully they can do well, show the talent they have the best they can.”
The squad is full of experienced rep players.
Mitch Porter and Nick Dawson have played for the Country Bulls while several others have been regulars at group level.
“Combinations are a big thing,” Keegan said.
“That’s what we’ve been working on this week, and putting those experienced blokes in the right spots.
“I’ve been happy with the way we’ve trained.
“We’ve been a pretty tight-knit unit.”
G19 has been drawn to play Group 4 in the first senior game this morning from 11.15am.
It must then back up against Group 21 at 3.10pm.
“It’s a disadvantage I think,” Keegan said.
“You’re playing every team fresh.”
That only adds to the difficulties of organising a rep side.
The team may have trained well but it still hasn’t spent a lot of time together and will need to find its feet quickly today if it is to knock off the other two teams and earn a good share of the Tiger jerseys.
“It’s difficult,” Keegan said.
“At the end of the day we’ve had two training sessions.
“But we’re not making any excuses.
“We’ll go there and do our best and hopefully win our games.
“If we do that we’ll get a significant number of players to that next level.”
Porter and Dawson would have to be among the favourites to make the Tigers team.
But there are opportunities for a few others if they perform.
“I think Chris Swan should get in,” Keegan said.
“And possibly Matty Cleal or Brian Saunders, one of the centres.”
But it’s up to the rest of the side to help them by winning as a team.
