The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) office in Blueberry Rd, Moree, has felt the effects of a BoM-like hit but police are tracking the culprits.
They hope closed-circuit television footage will reveal those who broke into the weather station early last Saturday.
But while they came in like a violent storm, smashing a front door and ransacking the office, stealing a small amount of money, they left behind more than just a mess.
Barwon police have since called in forensics officers from Tamworth who fingerprinted the scene yesterday.
The thieves stole up to six pieces of weather instrument equipment and the spare keys to the office before upending filing cabinets.
Valuable historical documents, including weather records dating back to 1879, and meteorological maps were left strewn across the floor.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Moree Police Station or Crime Stoppers.
