POLICE in Armidale have warned the community about a scam involving unsolicited tradies in the area.
Officers have received reports of tradespeople approaching elderly members of the community and doing a sub-standard job for high prices.
In some cases the tradespeople have even stolen from local residents.
The New England Local Area Command crime management unit yesterday issued a reminder for the community to be mindful when approached by these people who are looking for jobs to do around your home.
Police say these people tend to prey on the elderly in an attempt to perform prepaid work that is usually left incomplete, of a substandard quality and charged at exorbitant prices.
These people are generally not trained or licensed to perform maintenance and repair work on homes and may start work with or without the occupier's consent.
Con artists can be male or female of any age and may work individually or in pairs.
Under no circumstances allow them into your home, give them any personal information or money.
