MEMBER for New England Tony Windsor says he’s fixed a tax-offset anomaly that would have seen farmers facing uncertainty about placing end-of-year orders for farming equipment.
Mr Windsor was referring to the Australian Tax Office’s failure to distinguish between air carts and tillage equipment in the administration of the conservation tillage tax offset under the Clean Energy Future Package.
He said he discovered the anomaly after recent discussions with engineering specialists at Boss Engineering, Inverell.
The tax offset was an initiative of Mr Windsor’s involvement on the Multi-Party Climate Change Committee (MPCCC) that the government adopted during discussions in developing the package.
He believes his knowledge of rural issues and interaction with the people of Inverell drove two such outcomes – the conservation tillage tax offset and the removal of heavy- vehicle transport fuel from the package.
“Because of my knowledge of no-till farming practices, I was able to show the benefits to the other members of the MPCCC and gain agreement that an additional tax benefit to normal depreciation schedules should be offered for tillage equipment,” Mr Windsor said.Mr Windsor was referring to the Australian Tax Office’s failure to distinguish between air carts and tillage equipment in the administration of the conservation tillage tax offset under the Clean Energy Future Package.
