A MAN was arrested in Tamworth yesterday and charged with the violent murder of an elderly man after a home invasion in West Kempsey two years ago.
Detectives from Tamworth and Kempsey arrested 20-year-old Raymond Anthony Kennedy outside the Tamworth Court House yesterday morning where he was to appear for an unrelated matter.
He was charged with the murder of 75-year-old Stanley “Bruce” Davies who was found badly beaten at his Dangar St, West Kempsey, house in November 2010.
Mr Davies was found unconscious and suffering head and facial injuries.
He was taken to Kempsey Hospital but died in John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle six days later.
Kennedy, of a Kempsey address, did not apply for bail at a brief court appearance yesterday and his matter will be mentioned in Port Macquarie Local Court on August 9.
An unrelated charge of common assault against him was adjourned to Tamworth Court next Monday to fix a hearing date.
Kennedy is the third person allegedly linked to Mr Davies’ death following investigations by police from the mid-north coast Local Area Command.
In December 2010, Richard Keith Smith was charged with murder, less than three weeks after the alleged attack.
He’ll appear in Sydney Supreme Court on Friday.
A 25-year-old man was arrested last Wednesday and charged with murder, aggravated break and enter and stealing a motor vehicle.
He was refused bail and will appear in court on Thursday, August 9.
