Woman was travelling at 140km/h in Inverell CBD

A WOMAN will appear in court next month after she was allegedly caught travelling at more than 80km/h over the speed limit while drink-driving.

The 25-year-old was arrested by police on Sunday morning after the car she was driving was found to be travelling at up to 140km/h in a 60 zone in Byron Street in Inverell just after 1am.

Police allege the car appeared to be out of control and was seen travelling to the wrong side of the road several times.

When police began to follow the woman, she allegedly turned off her headlights and continued to travel at excessive speeds in a 50km/h zone.

She was stopped a short time later when police activated their lights and sirens and signalled for her to pull over.

When she tried to get out of the car, police said the woman stumbled and almost fell to the ground.

She was taken to Inverell police

station for a breath-analysis after she returned a positive roadside breath test.

The woman recorded a blood alcohol limit of .140.

She was charged with dangerous driving and mid range drink-driving.

Her licence was suspended and she was granted conditional bail to appear in court next month.
