SENTENCING proceedings are expected to begin next month for a disqualified driver who abandoned the wheel of a car doing 100km/h.
Raymond Neville Douglas Ballard, 37, has been in custody since early May after he was arrested on charges of dangerous driving and disqualified driving.
Ballard was the driver of a blue Ford Falcon sedan that police tried to pull over for a random breath-test, when he left the driver’s seat and jumped into the back seat of the car.
Police said the car was travelling about 100km/h on the highway when the front-seat passenger was forced to climb into the driver’s seat and stop the vehicle, which served to the wrong side of the road.
Ballard was arrested and background checks revealed he’d been disqualified from driving until 2035.
He pleaded guilty to the charges at his first appearance in Tamworth Local Court.
His matter has now been adjourned until July 9.
