Tamworth police still investigating home invasion

POLICE were last night still looking for a man believed to be involved in a home invasion in Tamworth yesterday morning.

Mutliple police units responded to a Manilla Rd house just after 9am after a man allegedly armed himself with a knife and demanded money from the occupant.

Police said the man involved was believed to be in his late 30s and the occupant of a similar age.

The man allegedly damaged a door at the house during the home invasion and reportedly left the scene in a white ute.

Police established a crime scene and forensic crews were called in to examine the house for evidence.

Late yesterday, senior police confirmed a knife was recovered at the scene but the man believed to be responsible was still on the run.

Officers could not release many details to The Leader but said while the investigation was only in its early stages, they believed the offender was known to the occupant and the home invasion was part of an ongoing dispute between the pair which had escalated.

Tamworth police supervisor Sergeant Geoff Sharpe said police were treating the incident as "serious".
