Tamworth athlete on the road to London

Our newest Olympic hero took off on the road to London yesterday leaving her hometown Tamworth and flying back to Perth to the Hockeyroos home base and some intensive pre-Olympic practice.

The 22-year-old hockey defender is one of three regional athletes bound for London next month, joining Moree boxer Cameron Hammond and Tamworth skeet shooter Clive Barton in the 2012 games team.

Before she flew out, Kate was given a rousing sendoff from hockey mates - and a fond farewell from her family, sister Emily, pictured left next to Kate and parents Sue and Barry Jenner.
