Armidale Court hears of brutal break-in

A WOMAN and a youth have faced Armidale Local Court yesterday in relation to the aggravated robbery of an 84-year-old woman on Thursday night.

Andrea Morris and the male teenager appeared at Armidale Local Court, both charged with aggravated break-and-enter and stealing.

Morris was refused bail to reappear on April 3.

New England police said the elderly woman was at home alone in Sattlers Ln when three offenders broke in just after 7.30pm.

The trio threatened the woman with a knife, demanding cash and property before ransacking the home and escaping with an amount of cash and jewellery.

The shaken woman raised the alarm with neighbours who called police. A crime scene was set up and forensics police and New England detectives were called in to investigate.

After questioning by detectives, the woman was able to give a description of her offenders to police.

After midnight, police arrested a 20-year-old woman and 16-year-old female who were taken to Armidale Police Station for questioning.

The teenager was later released pending further enquiries.

A 16-year-old male was arrested at 3am.

The woman and male youth were both charged with aggravated break-and-enter and stealing.

Police said the woman was unharmed but was left clearly shaken by the incident.

Two of the trio were believed to be related.
