IF THE media went into overdrive in the wake of the Torbay drama, then social media went berserk and the chatter was alive and electric from when the public and his voting electorate first heard the news yesterday.
Among those posted on Facebook or tweeting were these initial comments:
Linda Foskey: “The reach of the Obeid affair is extending to the New England. You only need to have a few meetings with him and you must be guilty of something according to the media. Lets hope Torbay’s personal and legal advisers are prepared for the mud that may or may not stick.”
Vicki and Troy Gow: “(That’s) sad. I think if these allegations put against you are false, as I am certain they are, I think the IDIOT making them needs to do us all a favour and make a PUBLIC apology which makes national news and withdraw himself from politics permanently and give us all a break from the nonsense. I really thought Mr Windsor was an adult and past school ground childishness but, alas, I must be living in a fairytale.”
Ewan Wilkinson: “Mr Torbay, if you have nothing to hide, why run? Methinks there is more to this than what the public have been told! Lets just hope that the people of New
England vote to retain someone like Mr Windsor!”
Kate Schwager: “Well, if you jump from state Labor to independent to federal National Party you would have to have something to hide. State Labor is in a terrible mess regarding things that happened when Mr Torbay was with them. I would think he needs to come clean rather then run. I agree with you, Ewan. Knowing what happens in politics we will never know the reason why. I would think the word OBEID might have something to do with it. Or perhaps Ian Macdonald maybe. I won’t point the finger, I just think the average person can have a good guess.”
Kathy Clare: “Disappointed is an understatement. We wanted you to take it to Windsor and break the link with Labor. Barnaby is the answer! Windsor just wants to knock out the Opposition and he has had his run. The floor crossing to Labor was the last straw. We want someone in that will stand up for the New England/ Northern Tablelands.”
Min McDonald: “Do we seriously not have one local person capable and intelligent enough to handle the role? With due respect to Mr Joyce, I think it’s time we picked someone a little more progressive for New England.”
Vicki nd Troy Gow: “Oh please a dead cockroach would do more for us than him.”
Emily Stocker: “Noooooooo! Not Barnaby! We don’t want him. Make the bad man go away!”
Chris Judge: “Of course Emily and get in some good men like Obeid and Macdonald.”
Emily Stocker: “Ha! Spoilt for choice aren’t we!”
Pete Nocsg: “Fantastic. Anyone associated with Obeid and Mcdonald are now on the down and out and fully deserve to be after having their snouts in the public trough for years. Labor, Liberal, National and businessmen of all types. You robbed us and we won’t forget.”
Steve Gribbin: “So what happens about the money he spent on the office in Tamworth, just more waste.”
Chris Judge: “The Nats better have a REALLY good candidate lined up – Tony Windbag had 62 per cent of the primary vote at the last election!”
Richard Johnston: “Surely Mr Torbay is/was the only person who could have given Mr Windsor a true run for his money.”
Ange Dodson: “Well Adam was going to throw his hat in the ring for state. He might jump up a level.”
Bernadette Bilsborough: “Windsor turned his back on us when he sided with Labor and The Greens, Richard was the only man for the job, I hope they know what they are doing driving this man away.”
