The club was formed in 1993 with 14 members and in its two decades has grown to a membership of 97, with about 80 people attending celebrations to mark the event on Tuesday.
Five of the founding members – Beryl Hill, Alex Munro, John Fergus, Dawn Lockhart and Joyce Wood – are still among its ranks.
Incoming president Bill Firman – himself a member of about 17 years – said socialising with fellow retirees was theprimary purpose of the club.
Probus clubs are for retired professionals and business people.
“Fellowship – that’s the main thing about it,” Mr Firman said.
While some community groups experienced increasing difficulty maintaining healthy numbers of members, Mr Firman said the club still enjoyed good membership and had about three to four new retirees join each year.
Even with his long history with the club, Mr Firman still enjoys all it provides.
“They’re a great bunch of people,” he said.
Celebrations included a lunch, special guests from other local Probus clubs and the presentation of an award from Rotary.
The members gather each month for a meeting and to catch up, and also participate in events and outings throughout the year.
