POLICE have charged a Moree man in relation to an attempted robbery at a local service station earlier this week.
About 11.30pm on Tuesday, a shop attendant at the 24-hour Caltex service station on the corner of Alice and Frome streets was approached by a man demanding cash.
A store spokesman said the man said, “I’m here to rob you, if you want to ring the police ring them now.”
“He was kicking and smacking the door in a threatening manner,” the spokesman said.
After smashing the glass door, the offender fled the store empty-handed and was arrested a short time after in a nearby laneway.
The staff member said he believed the man may have been intoxicated.
The 18-year-old was taken to Moree Police Station where he was charged with a number of offences.
The man will face court later this month.
