TWO women were seriously injured in separate car accidents near Guyra and Uralla.
A 44-year-old woman was in a critical but stable condition yesterday after a single-vehicle accident near Guyra on Wednesday just before 8pm.
Ambulance, firefighters and the Volunteer Rescue Association worked to free the woman for nearly two hours after her car hit a tree on Ebor Rd.
New England police said initial investigations appeared to show the vehicle’s tyres left the road, causing the driver to over-correct and spin across the road.
Paramedics took the woman by road to Armidale hospital before she was transferred by air to Coffs Harbour hospital.
Meanwhile, a 73-year-old woman suffered shoulder, hip and spinal injuries in a two-car accident near Uralla on Wednesday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the intersection of Thunderbolts Way and Bundarra Rd near Uralla just before 4.30pm after reports an elderly woman was trapped in one of the vehicles and petrol was leaking.
Both roads were closed, to allow the Westpac Rescue Helicopter to land and take the woman to Tamworth hospital.
Three others were injured in the accident and taken to Armidale hospital.
The 73-year-old woman is in a stable condition.
New England police are investigating both accidents and are asking anyone with information to contact Armidale Police Station.
